Reduced Rent in Exchange for Domestic Help – Hyattsville, MD

We’re a couple of Institute Grads who are about to welcome our fifth child and who need some help! We live in Hyattsville, right across the street from St. Jerome’s parish and Academy. We have two adjoining rooms plus a bathroom available on the main floor of our house (one of the rooms is 110 sqft, the other is 100 sqft). The rooms have a private entrance. We would love to offer reduced rent for help with childcare and other domestic duties. We would be open to different amounts of help depending on the amount of time you might have available and the amount you can afford to pay in rent: in general, a higher amount of help each month would mean lower rent. If you’re interested in more info, please contact Mike at [email protected]. Thank you!

Seeking 1 Male Housemate

Hello!

Our Catholic men’s house in Silver Spring, MD has a room opening beginning in August. We are a longtime group house (affectionately known as ‘Valhalla’ to its present and former occupants) that would love to hear from you if you’re interested in a place for the upcoming school year.

Our house is located about 3 minutes (by foot) from the Forest Glen metro stop on the Red line, which is almost exactly 15 minutes to the CUA metro stop. It’s in a quiet and suburban part of Silver Spring (far from the antics of Brookland), with easy access to grocery shopping and beautiful parks/walking trails. We are also an 8 minute walk from the weekly TLM at Old St. John’s, as well as a 12 minute walk to new St. John’s, and a short drive to St. Bernadette’s.

The house itself is a 5 bedroom, 2.5 bathroom. The room is an upstairs bedroom for $580/mo. + utilities (~$100/mo). The lease is month-to-month, and while the room opens August 1st, we are very flexible with move-ins, from late July to mid-September. There are five of us that live in the house–we like to keep things clean, and enjoy spending time together watching movies, talking philosophical/theological shop, or hosting the occasional party.

Please email me at [email protected] if you’re interested. We’ve hosted many CUA men (including myself) over the years, and regularly have openings, so feel free to shoot me a message about any future openings or rooming possibilities as well!

Seeking Female Tenant for Help with Chores and Childcare

Posted July 24, 2023

My name is Kristin Hurd, and my husband Nathaniel and I are seeking a Catholic female tenant who can help with our home and children 10-12 hours a week, in exchange for room and board.

Available for the academic year (End of August 2023-May 2024).

We live in Hyattsville, Maryland, within walking distance to St. Jerome’s Catholic Church and a close commute for Catholic U, where I work part-time.

We have three children, ages 6.5, 4 and 1.5. We are looking for a Catholic woman who can ideally provide childcare and help prepare or clean up from meals on an agreed upon schedule based on both of our needs.

The bedroom is a bright, newly renovated space in our basement with a semi-private bathroom (we do use it occasionally during the day). The rest of living space (laundry, kitchen, etc.) is shared.

We can furnish the room or tenant may bring her own items. All utilities and internet are included. Should availability change, we can negotiate a rate to pay some rent in order to lessen hours.

If you are interested, please contact me by email at [email protected] for more information.

Room in Hyattsville Home

Posted July 14, 2023

Come live in our basement!  We’re a couple in our mid-thirties, both of whom graduated from the Institute’s MTS (where we met!), and the male half of whom graduated from the Ph.D in 2018. We have four kids (8, 6, 3, and 1). Our home is in Hyattsville, just three miles from the Institute, in a lovely neighborhood right across the street from the vibrant St. Jerome’s parish.

The basement is furnished, and it has a separate entrance. It boasts two bedrooms, each with its own full bathroom; a kitchen; and a dining room/common area. There’s also a laundry room with a washing machine and dryer, which we would share. One of the bedrooms is already occupied (by a PhD candidate at the Institute), but the other room (and attendant bathroom) will be vacant in the coming school year. Our current tenant is male, so you, his potential basement-mate, will need to be male as well. The available bedroom is just over 200 sqft, with a big walk-in closet. Rent is $825/month, and the room will be available at the beginning of July.

Please contact Mike at [email protected] if you have any questions or would like any more information!

Seeking 1 Male Roommate

I am a newly accepted student at the Pontifical JP II Institute in DC. I just signed a lease (Aug. 24, 2023 – May 31, 2024) to rent a fully-furnished, studio-style room beautifully built on the second floor of a barn (1st floor is a woodshop that we can use). The Landlord has agreed to allow me to search for a roommate in order to split the rent. Rent, if split, will be $450/mo (plus utilities). The barn is adjacent to a separate, neighboring house occupied by 2 women (CUA students) with whom we split the utilities. Parking is on the street – the Landlord says he hasn’t heard of any incidents. There is room in the barn to store bicycles on the 1st floor. The location is about 10min from CUA/the Basilica/the JP II Institute. As a last thing, I will also likely be bringing my small dog (Bichon Frise) who will be living in the barn as well.

Based on what I have seen, this is a great price and area for a man who is comfortable sharing their living space. Please email me if you are interested: Dixon at [email protected].
