Room in Family Home in Exchange for Help with Household Chores
Posted May 1, 2023
** Seeking a female housemate who is interested in trading approximately 15 hours a week of help with household chores and the children in exchange for lodging ** The best fit housemate would be a person who enjoys the chaos of family life; is a sound sleeper; has a strong immune system; and who responds to a messy house, half-unloaded dishwasher, and half-cleared dining table by pitching in without judgment.
** Start date / Commitment period ** We are looking for someone to live with us during the 2023-2024 school year. Move in date could be as early as July 2023. If the arrangement is working well, the housemate would be welcome to stay on.
** The room ** It’s a private bedroom, approximately 10’x10’, with a good size closet. The room can be made available furnished or unfurnished, as you prefer. There is no private entrance or bathroom. The housemate would share the bathroom, kitchen, and all other common areas with the family. Laundry, fast internet, use of washer/dryer, and all other utilities would of course be included. Our house has four levels. We rent out the basement to a tenant. The first floor has a living room, dining room, kitchen, playroom, and bathroom. The second floor has a bathroom and three bedrooms (one for mom and dad; one for our current housemate; and one for you). The third floor has the children’s bedroom, and the office. For some pictures of the house, see here.
** Location ** Our house is in a pleasant, walkable neighborhood in Hyattsville, MD with a strong Catholic community. We are walking distance from 2 metro stops (West Hyattsville and PG Plaza); coffee shops, restaurants, and grocery stores; St Jerome’s parish; and many walking/biking trails. We are also close to CUA, the JPII Institute, and UMD.
** The chores ** We would especially love to find a housemate who can help with either school drop-off (9am-10:30am) or school pick-up (4pm-5:30pm) at least some days a week during the school year. We will provide the vehicle. Other areas we could potentially use help with include any of the following: dishes, laundry, cooking, tidying up the common areas, errands, yardwork, home repairs, and providing back-up childcare when kids are home from daycare/school due to closures or illness.
** About us ** We are practicing Catholics and members of St. Jerome’s Parish. Mom and Dad both work full-time. Our life is centered around home, neighborhood, and our local community, and we are part of a very active church community with many young families. We have experience living with housemates. When we have the time and energy, we enjoy camping, hiking, bike rides, and playing strategy board games. Our household currently has 3 adults, and 3 children. Mom (40) is an Economist at the World Bank. Dad (41) is a data management specialist at a non-governmental association and works full-time from home. Our housemate (38) has been living with us for the past year. She is an accountant and asylum seeker from Belarus, and she helps out with chores and school drop-off/pick-up in exchange for room and board, while she waits for her work authorization to come through. Our oldest child (6) is an independent and creative little girl who loves playing Minecraft on the computer, riding her bicycle, and going to the playground and swimming pool. Our middle child (3.5) is a caring and generous little girl, who loves being at home with her family, riding her scooter, playing with dolls, and learning rhymes and songs. Our youngest child (2) is a happy and adaptable little girl, who wants to do everything her older does, and who never misses an opportunity to be helpful.

Three Females Looking For One Female Roommate For House
Posted April 21, 2023
Hi. My name is Nicole. Me and two other women are looking for a fourth female roommate to rent out of a house in the Arlington area closer to DC area, but not in DC. The house that we have our eyes on is a house in Arlington and it’s near the metro (five minutes walking distance). We need one more lady to live with. Text me, or email me if you’re interested. (516) 650-8170, [email protected] The rent would be $1075 plus utilities. I would need you to move in by June 1st.
A little about me: I am a very passionate Christian. I work as a journalist for The Christian Post Newspaper, which is a news publication that reports the news nationally and internationally using a biblical worldview. It is a very rewarding job and I view it as a ministry.
I am also earning my master’s degree in seminary school at Regent University in their fully online practical theology master’s program. Although Christian journalism is my full time job and passion, I am an aspiring part time young adult pastor.
I am in my mid-twenties (26). I am very neat and I love to clean. I have no pets but, I’m not opposed to living with them. I enjoy going to church, Bible study, and singing worship. I sang lead worship for nearly four years at my church when I lived in New York. I love to read and write, go for brunches, exercise, and go for bike rides. I love to encourage other people and I love to watch movies; romantic comedies are my go to. Text me if you’re interested in being our roommate.

2 Furnished Bedrooms in Alexandria
Posted April 11, 2023
Hello All! My wife, Genevieve, and I have two fully-furnished, sunny, and large bedrooms available for rent in our 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom home in Alexandria, VA. Our house is just 2 blocks from the Huntington Metro station, and is only an 8-minute drive from the Basilica of Saint Mary in Old Town Alexandria! Bedroom 1 is $1095/month and will be available in November 2023. Bedroom 2 is $945/month and will be available in June 2024. Utilities and internet are included in the rent! Click here to view photos.
The huge size of the bedrooms, combined with the obscenely fast gigabit internet connection make our house an excellent place to work or study from home. Both bedrooms are upstairs and share a large, full bathroom. We will happily fully furnish both bedrooms, and we will provide a mattress, bedframe, desk, chair, and decorations free of charge. If you would like to bring your own furnishings, that is fine too. While the property is now redecorated (and way cuter!), pictures can be seen at our Zillow link, which we will send you if you reach out 🙂
Our neighbors have been unbelievably welcoming, and the whole neighborhood really seems to look out for each other. Not to mention, the Catholic Young Adult community at the Basilica is crazy active!! After the 10AM Sunday Mass, over 50 of us gather at a house across the street for coffee, snacks, and community 🙂 Genevieve and I were blown away by the welcoming and friendly nature of the community at the Basilica, and we cannot wait to get more involved with their frequent Holy Happy Hours (which are as awesome as they sound).
Genevieve and I both graduated from Virginia Tech (Go Hokies!!) with degrees in Aerospace Engineering in 2022. We would love to build up a fun community of young people who can attend Mass together and support each other. We take lots of vanlife trips, and we are huge National Parks people who love to hike, bike, and travel. Also, we love to cook, bake, and share 🙂

Seeking Female Tenant for Help with Chores and Childcare
Posted March 27, 2023
My name is Kristin Hurd, and my husband Nathaniel and I are seeking a Catholic female tenant who can help with our home and children 10-12 hours a week, preferably including daytime hours during the week, in exchange for room and board.
Available either for summer (May 27-Aug. 4), for the academic year (August 2023-May 2024) or for a calendar year including summer.
We live in Hyattsville, Maryland, within walking distance to St. Jerome’s Catholic Church and a close commute for Catholic U.
We have three children, ages 6.5, 3.5 and a one-year-old. We are looking for a Catholic woman who can ideally provide childcare and help prepare or clean up from meals on an agreed upon schedule based on both of our needs.
The bedroom is a bright, newly renovated space in our basement with a semi-private bathroom (we do use it occasionally during the day). The rest of living space (laundry, kitchen, etc.) is shared.
We can furnish the room or tenant may bring her own items. All utilities and internet are included. Should availability change, we can negotiate a rate to pay some rent in order to lessen hours.
If you are interested, please contact me by email at [email protected] for more information.
Room in Hyattsville Home
Posted March 15, 2023
Come live in our basement! We’re a couple in our mid-thirties, both of whom graduated from the Institute’s MTS (where we met!), and the male half of whom graduated from the Ph.D in 2018. We have three kids (8, 6, 3, and 1). Our home is in Hyattsville, just three miles from the Institute, in a lovely neighborhood right across the street from the vibrant St. Jerome’s parish.
The basement is finished and furnished, and it has a separate entrance. It boasts two bedrooms, each with its own full bathroom; a kitchen; and a dining room/common area. There’s also a laundry room with a washing machine and dryer, which we would share. One of the bedrooms is already occupied (by a PhD candidate at the Institute), but the other room (and attendant bathroom) will be vacant in the coming school year. Our current tenant is male, so you, his potential basement-mate, will need to be male as well. The available bedroom is just over 200 sqft, plus a big walk-in closet. Rent is $875/month. The room will be available at the beginning of the school year, but we could possibly arrange for an earlier move-in if that would be helpful.
Please contact Mike at [email protected] if you have any questions or would like any more information!
