Posted September 28, 2022
Our basement efficiency apartment in the Hyattsville Catholic community will be available Oct. 1. It features a large living space with two closets, built-in bookshelves, two additional banks of wall storage, and portable shelf units. There is a 4′ x 8′ glass board on one wall and a large painted-on projection screen on another wall, along with an HD projector and entertainment system with five built-in speakers and a subwoofer. There is also a kitchenette with two counters, cabinets, shelves, full-size fridge/freezer, electric cooktop, microwave oven, and a large toaster oven. The bathroom includes a large shower. There is a European-style futon and a table with chairs; you can also bring your own bed. Laundry is shared. The floors are all polished stone (granite and marble) and the finishes are metal and glass. There is ample lighting and a fair amount of natural light. There are two waterproofing systems with four sump pumps, two with battery backup. In addition to central air conditioning and heating, there is a dehumidifier in the foyer. It has a clean and dry feel for a basement apartment.
The monthly rent of $1000 includes all utilities and high-speed Internet. The apartment has a separate entrance and a dedicated off-street parking spot next to the entrance. The property, called the Wheelock House and located at the south end of the Hyattsville Historic District, is on the county register of historic sites.
Bus service goes to the Rhode Island Ave. Metro Station (Red Line) or you can walk (1.25 miles) or take a different bus to the West Hyattsville Metro Station (Green Line). By car, it is about a 12-minute drive to Catholic University’s campus or 20 minutes to downtown. We also have a bike trail with an entrance directly across the street that goes to the West Hyattsville Metro Station. There is a hook in our shed for a bike, if you have one.
We are two blocks from shops and restaurants in downtown Hyattsville, including Franklins Brewery, Restaurant and General Store, Streetcar 82 Brewery, and Pizza Paradiso, and about eight blocks from the Arts District Hyattsville restaurants and Yes! Organic Market. The main city park is two blocks in the other direction, and St. Jerome’s Church with its well-known Catholic community is a 7-block walk. Supermarkets in Hyattsville include Safeway, Giant and Aldi, and Whole Foods Market is just north in Riverdale Park. Hiker-biker trails go in virtually every direction.
Rent includes use of the yard, which features perennial gardens, shrubs and trees, as well as a large deck with a charcoal grill, and a gazebo.
There are many Catholics in the neighborhood, including 10 households within a block (a new Catholic women’s group house is kitty-corner). The Hyattsville Historic District is a very safe neighborhood where crimes against persons are virtually unheard of and residents feel safe to walk after dark.
A lease is required that would expire or renew next summer.

2 Furnished Bedrooms Available in Alexandria
Posted September 15, 2022
My fiance, Genevieve, and I have two fully-furnished, sunny, and large bedrooms available for rent in our 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom home in Alexandria, VA. Our house is just 2 blocks from the Huntington Metro station, and is only an 8-minute drive from the Basilica of Saint Mary in Old Town Alexandria! Bedroom 1 is $1095/month and Bedroom 2 is $945/month. Utilities and internet are included in the rent! Click here to view photos.
The huge size of the bedrooms, combined with the obscenely fast gigabit internet connection make our house an excellent place to work or study from home. Both bedrooms are upstairs and share a large, full bathroom. We will happily fully furnish both bedrooms, and we will provide a mattress, bedframe, desk, chair, and (thanks to Genevieve, who loves to decorate) a ton of cute signs and adorable decorations free of charge. If you would like to bring your own furnishings, that is fine too. While the property is now redecorated (and way cuter!), pictures can be seen at our Zillow link, which we will send you if you reach out 🙂
Though we moved in just last week, our neighbors have been unbelievably welcoming, and the whole neighborhood really seems to look out for each other. Not to mention, the Catholic Young Adult community at the Basilica is crazy active!! After the 10AM Sunday Mass, over 50 of us gather at a house across the street for coffee, snacks, and community 🙂 Genevieve and I were blown away by the welcoming and friendly nature of the community at the Basilica, and we cannot wait to get more involved with their frequent Holy Happy Hours (which are as awesome as they sound).
Genevieve and I both graduated from Virginia Tech (Go Hokies!!) with degrees in Aerospace Engineering in May, and we will be getting married in November! We would love to build up a fun community of young people who can attend Mass together and support each other. We take lots of vanlife trips, and we are huge National Parks people who love to hike, bike, and travel. Also, we love to cook, bake, and share 🙂

On September 1st, we will have a spacious, single master bedroom with a huge closet and large bathroom available for $1,600/month — that doesn’t include utilities, but it includes a private parking spot!
We’re looking for a guy to move in with us.
I’ve been in this house for nearly five years and it’s simply incredible! We are a 13-minute walk from both St. Joe’s AND Holy Comforter.
We are at an awesome Capitol Hill location only six blocks away from Trader Joe’s, Eastern Market, and the Blue and Orange Metro Lines; six blocks away from H Street; and a 20-minute walk from the Capitol. Additionally, the landlord/owner is incredibly kind, thoughtful, and responsive.

Two mid 20s women looking for a third roommate
Posted June 27, 2022
Our current roommate is moving out at the end of July and we’re looking for a replacement. The house is a 3 bed, 2 bath home in Cheverly, MD, a little less than a mile to the metro, 5 mi to University of Maryland, 5 mi to Catholic University, and about 7 mi to downtown DC. The available room is 11×15 ft and we primarily share the one upstairs bathroom. In addition to a living room, dining room, and kitchen, the house has a finished basement with a bathroom that we mostly use for an improvised guest space and for a bit of extra storage. Rent and utilities (water, heat, gas, electricity, and lawn maintenance) are about $900 a month in total.
Your roommates would be two recent CUA graduates: a PhD student at University of Maryland and a music teacher at a Catholic school in Montgomery County. We lead semi-busy lives, so you would have some independence if that’s what you’re looking for, but we are also very friendly! Our landlord is pretty responsive, we get along very well with him, and we’ve never had any sort of issues. Pets are allowed as long as they are in a tank or a cage (unfortunately no dogs or cats).
Feel free to email [email protected] for more details or if you’d like to come by to see the house!

Seeking Female Housemate in Exchange for Help with Chores
Posted May 11, 2022
Offering room in family home in exchange for help with household chores
What we are seeking: We have found that having an additional helpful adult in the household, to help out here and there, makes life much easier. We are seeking a housemate who is interested in trading approximately 15 hours a week of help with household chores and the children in exchange for room (and perhaps board). The best fit housemate would be a person who enjoys the chaos of family life; is a sound sleeper; has a strong immune system; and who responds to a messy house, half-unloaded dishwasher, and half-cleared dining table by pitching in without judgment.
The room: It’s a private bedroom, approximately 10’x10’, with a large closet. The room is furnished with a double bed, a dresser, and a desk.
There is no private entrance or bathroom. The housemate would share bathroom, kitchen, and all other common areas, with the family. Laundry, fast internet, use of washer/dryer, and all other utilities would of course be included.
Location: Our house is in a pleasant, walkable neighborhood in Hyattsville, MD with a strong Catholic community. We are walking distance from 2 metro stops (West Hyattsville and PG Plaza); coffee shops, restaurants, and grocery stores; St Jerome’s parish; and many walking/biking trails. We are also close to CUA, the JPII Institute, and UMD.
About us: We are a family of five: mom, dad, and three young children. Mom and dad both work full-time-ish. We are Midwesterners; practicing Catholics and members of St. Jerome’s Parish; fairly introverted; enjoy strategy board games; and our idea of an exciting weekend adventure is a trip to a local park/playground. Kids are ages 1, 2, and 5, and go to school/daycare during the week.
Move-in Date and commitment period: The earliest possible move-in date is August 22nd. We are flexible on commitment period – let us know what you are looking for! I think we’d prefer 2-3 months or till the end of the fall semester, with the possibility to extend if both parties agree.
The chores: The chores that the housemate could help with include any of the following: washing dishes, loading/unloading the dishwasher, dining room and kitchen clean up, tidying up of the common areas, childcare, child drop-off/pick-up from daycare/school, yardwork, cooking dinner and laundry.
