“Narratives of Fatherhood in Scripture”

Dr. Joseph Atkinson, Associate Professor of Sacred Scripture, presented at Franciscan University’s Truth and Love Conference titled “The Virtues of Father- And Motherhood: Unveiling the Meaning of Sexual Difference” on July 8, 2022.

Dr. Atkinson participated in the conference’s first session on the virtues of fatherhood along with Rev. José Granados and Dr. Michael Waldstein. His lecture was titled “Narratives of Fatherhood in Scripture.”

Furthermore, the National Catholic Register highlighted Dr. Atkinson’s contribution to the conference, stating:

[Dr. Atkinson] emphasized, “Families are to live their lives in Christ,” citing St. Paul in Ephesians 5:21 and how the domestic church should be “subject to one another in the fear of Christ.”

“Fatherhood must be lived out in Christ … lived out in daily relationships,” adding that this is very much needed in modern culture: “The Christian message is indeed good news.”
