September 25, 2009

The Pontifical John Paul II Institute for Studies on Marriage and Family presented “The Brain and Human Conscious Perception” by Allen J. Aksamit, section head in neurology at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., and associate professor of neurology at the Mayo Graduate School of Medicine.

Dr. Aksamit spoke about the areas of the brain, their functioning in perceiving stimuli and effects on processing decisions and resulting actions. Of special interest was the question of perception of the numinous and what science does and does not know about the brain’s role in such perception.
