The Fall 2017 course in the Institute’s ongoing Continuing Education Series will be “John Paul II and the Foundations of Catholic Social Teaching: An Encounter with the Modern World.”

This course explores Catholic social doctrine that is grounded on an understanding of the human person and society in the light of the Gospel. This teaching, particularly as it has been developed over the past hundred years, offers a rich treasure of insights concerning the nature of man, his eternal destiny, the sanctity of marriage, and the important role of the family in building a harmonious society. The social encyclicals of St. John Paul II, Laborem Exercens, Sollicitudo Rei Socialis and Centesimus Annus, will be our guide to the transforming power of Christ on the social, economic, moral, and political life of society, and help us examine key issues of Catholic social thought, such as liberty, marriage, family, the common good, and human work.

This course can be taken toward renewal requirements for VCEA licensure. Numerous high schools in the Archdiocese of Washington accept the course for CEU credits.
