2027 Summer Fellowship: Does Humanity Have a Future? “Technology, Nature, and Culture”
May 24, 2027 at 2:00 PM - May 28, 2027 at 2:00 PM

Invention and tools are original and unique developments of human nature. They are also fundamental to culture. But something new is happening. Our technologies have begun to displace rather than extend our humanity: machine intelligence substitutes for human intelligence; “AI companions” for love or friendship; ARTs for procreation; “identities” for man and woman; mechanism for nature.
The 2027 John Paul II Institute’s Summer Fellowship “Technology, Nature, and Culture” will discuss the causes and implications of this displacement for the future of humanity.
The Fellowship will include lectures, ample time for discussion, cultural events around Washington D.C., and social time among students and with faculty.
The Fellowship will take place May 24-28, at the John Paul II Institute, on the campus of The Catholic University of America. Applications are welcome from college sophomores, juniors, seniors and recent graduates in all majors.
Application
Prospective Summer Fellows should complete the application form by March 15. (After deadline, we will accept applications until all the spots are filled.) Acceptance notifications will be sent by March 31.
Costs
All Summer Fellows will receive a scholarship that covers the cost of housing at the Saint John Paul II Retreat House, meals, and tuition. Participants will be responsible for their own travel to Washington, DC, public transportation expenses, and a $200 registration fee. A limited number of scholarships is available to assist applicants in financial need with the cost of registration.
