St. Bernard’s School of Theology and Ministry, a Roman Catholic graduate school, is seeking applications for a full-time, non-tenure track, open rank faculty position in Spiritual and/or Systematic Theology for the 2026-2027 academic year.
The successful applicant will hold a degree (Ph.D. or S.S.D. or S.T.D. preferred, ABD or S.S.L. or S.T.L. considered) in either Spiritual Theology or Systematic Theology. The successful candidate will teach a series of courses in the School’s graduate programs, including several that play a key role in its Permanent Diaconate formation programs. A record of successful undergraduate or graduate teaching and scholarly theological activity is expected. Duties include a 4/4 course load (across multiple modes of delivery, including in-person and hy-flex) with a 1-course per semester release for advising, continued professional and scholarly development, and active service to the School and its mission. The Visiting Faculty contract is for 9 months (August to May).
A search for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position is planned for the coming year, with the appointment scheduled to begin in Fall 2027; the Visiting Faculty member for 2026-2027 would be encouraged to apply.
St. Bernard’s encourages applications from those who are able to commit to the School’s mission to educate and assist women and men in academic, ministerial, pastoral, and spiritual formation in accord with Ex Corde Ecclesiae. The successful candidate will be expected to petition the local bishop for the mandatum. Women and candidates from historically underrepresented communities are encouraged to apply.
Candidates should submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, teaching philosophy, evidence of teaching excellence, example of scholarly writing, and the names and contact information for three professional references to [email protected] (PDF format required). Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.
