SUMMARY:Food Production and Family-Friendly Farming
DESCRIPTION:Addressing a full crowd in McGivney Hall’s Keane auditorium\, Mr. Joel Salatin of Polyface Farms in Swoope\, VA\, spoke on “Food Production and Family-Friendly Farming (Everything I Want to Do is Illegal)” on Thursday afternoon\, November 5. \nMr. Salatin\, a second-generation alternative farmer\, is the author of six books on family-friendly farming methods\, natural farming and food production\, and local economy. Mr. Salatin and Polyface Farms have been featured recently in Michael Pollan’s book The Omnivore’s Dilemma and the documentaries Food\, Inc. and Fresh. \nMr. Salatin’s address focused on a vision for farming based on 1 Corinthians 10:31—doing all things (inclusive of food-production and eating) for the glory of God. Adapting a moral agrarian ethic from Judeo-Christian ethics\, he spoke about the work of his farm incorporating the “vectors” of forgiveness\, order\, redemption\, and disturbance. \nSalatin Lecture – Photo History\n \nMr. Joel Salatin – November 5\, Keane Auditorium \n \nQuestion and answer time – November 5 \n  \n  \n \nMr. Salatin – Responding to questions \n \nAfter the lecture – Institute students\, other attendees\, Mr. Salatin in conversation
