Apartments and Housemates

Come live in our basement!  We’re a young couple, both of whom graduated from the Institute’s MTS (where we met!) in 2012 and who are living in Hyattsville’s Historic District while the male half of us stumbles through the Institute’s doctoral program.  Our home is just three miles from the Institute, in a lovely neighborhood right by the vibrant and faithful St. Jerome’s parish, and boasts ample garden space to which any renter would be welcome to contribute.

The basement is finished, is largely furnished, and is divided into two rooms (one of which could be a bedroom, the other a study/sitting/prayer/entertaining/recreation space—or whatever your fancy should dictate), both of which are just over 210 square feet, and both of which have windows.  In addition, there's a full bathroom and a small room dedicated to housing a washing machine and dryer.  Rent is $700, plus utilities, and the space will be available in August.  If you’re interested in learning more, and in potentially furthering the mission of the Institute by helping one of its PhD students stay financially afloat, please contact Mike at  Thank you!

The house on McKenney Ave in Silver Spring, MD is a 10-min walk from the Forest Glen metro station--4 stops on the red line from CUA--and close to Washington, D.C. A block away from St. John's Catholic church, and a short distance to CVS, Whole Foods, farmers' markets, etc. Every housemate has her own room and shares the house with four other women who are grad students and professionals. The house has 5 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, a dining room, sun room, and a garden with veggies and herbs. Rent is $600/mo plus utilities. Nobody has pets. We very much enjoy having guests for dinner and welcome female overnight guests. We are looking for a female roommate to move in any time in July or August.

We are a chill house with a respectful atmosphere and throw great parties every once in awhile. We love good food, good beer and wine, great conversations--and we love having all of those on our back porch, sometimes spilling out in the yard and going late in the night around the fire pit.

We share dinners Monday-Thursday, which is awesome, as you only have to cook one night a week!

If this atmosphere sounds good to you, please contact me at for more details and pictures.

2 Room, 1 Bath Basement Rental in a Safe and Quiet Neighborhood

Available the first week of August, this rental is perfect for a professional or graduate student who would like more room, more quiet, and more privacy than a group house can offer, at a lower price than a single apartment. It is the entire lower level of a small home in a safe neighborhood in College Park and includes:
• two rooms, each with a window, connected by a third (slightly smaller) space
• renovated, full bathroom with window
• kitchenette with sink, fridge, large toaster/convection oven, and two-burner hotplate
• separate entrance in the rear
• shared washer and dryer
• walking distance to the Greenbelt Metro station, through the neighborhood
• walking distance to the Hollywood Shopping Center with MOM’s (organic grocery store), farmer’s market, REI, restaurants, dry cleaning, etc.
• close to four Catholic churches: walking distance to Holy Redeemer and within a 15- minute drive to St. Mark the Evangelist (which has an adoration chapel), St. Bernadette, and St. Jerome
The home is in a quiet, established neighborhood which dead ends into a large forested area, yet is still just 0.6 miles from the Greenbelt Metro station with about a 20 minute ride to the Brookland/CUA station. If you prefer to drive, it’s 8 miles to campus, a 20-25 minute drive.
About us: Michael is an Institute doctoral student in the dissertation stage and Anna works for Communio. We (along with our small Corgi) will be living on the main level of the home, and basically the only time we would come downstairs would be for laundry. Having lived in a basement ourselves, we would work to make sure this space is a comfortable home. It is currently unfurnished, but we are open to providing it furnished if desired.
This will be our fourth shared housing experience, and good communication between everyone is really important to us. We are respectful and responsible, and want to find a renter who is the same. If this sounds like a good fit, we look forward to talking with you. There will also be a short rental application for you to complete.
Rent is $825/month, which is all inclusive (internet, water, gas, electricity). One-year lease with one-month security deposit (can be applied to last month’s rent) required.
