Executive Director, Catholic Charities of South Carolina (Charleston, SC)

Catholic Charities of South Carolina (CCSC) is a statewide agency founded in 1945 to serve people in most need. Called by Christ and the teachings of the Catholic Church, CCSC promotes dignity, ministers to the spiritual and physical needs of those under our care and acts to break the cycles of poverty and homelessness. Serving over 50,000 people a year, we change lives by meeting people where they are and accompanying them on their journey. South Carolina has an average poverty rate of 14%, higher than the national average, and in some counties the poverty rate is over 36%. The state struggles with the continued impacts of generational poverty, substance abuse, homelessness, educational inequalities and racism. At the same time, South Carolina is growing rapidly, particularly along its coastline and in major cities. It is increasingly necessary to meet the diverse needs of a growing and varied population. With 30 staff members and an annual budget of $3.7 million, CCSC is poised to grow and meet the challenges facing residents of the Palmetto State. It is our responsibility to lead and organize the Catholic response to issues facing our brothers and sisters across the state.

Jesus established his Church over 2,000 years ago. As a branch of that same Church, the Diocese of Charleston works to restore all things in Christ’s name. CCSC must have a leader who is committed to the teachings and traditions of the faith. The Executive Director must be ready to bring relief and evangelization to communities in need of this ministry. He or she must be capable of inspiring staff, parishes, schools, volunteers and community partners to work collaboratively and realize the vision set forth by Christ himself and recorded in the Gospels. The Executive Director must be a practicing Catholic in good standing with a strong desire to empower every ministry to bring an encounter with Jesus to every person served by CCSC. The Executive Director must have a strong background in fundraising and development and be prepared to lead efforts to expand the organization’s reach and donor base. South Carolina has a large and rapidly expanding Hispanic population. As such, the Executive Director must be bilingual in English and Spanish.
