I. PRIMARY FUNCTIONS
The Director of Intercultural Ministries provides dynamic leadership to the Office of Intercultural Ministries that serves the diversity of cultural groups present in the Archdiocese of Indianapolis. The director ensures the office’s commitment to the Great Commission of Jesus Christ and to the Body of Christ, with its many parts, as it reaches out to bring the light of Christ to the world. The director is a person of faith, serving both as a pastoral minister, who possesses a vision of how a local Church can develop its potential, and a professional, who hold specialized credentials in ministry.
II. POSITION CONTENT: ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Lead, provide direction, and maintain oversight for all ministerial activities associated with the Office of Intercultural Ministries including, but not limited to, Hispanic Ministry, Black Catholic Ministry, Asian/Pacific Islander Communities, and French-speaking Catholic Communities.
2. Advocate and promote the hopes, dreams, and goals of intercultural ministry within the Archdiocese, working with among other groups the Indiana Catholic Conference.
3. Be a connector, connecting others with resources in furtherance of the goals of the Office of Intercultural Ministries.
4. Provide appropriate supervision and leadership to the direct reports of this position, enabling their individual successes and encouraging their achievements in furtherance of the goals of the Office of Intercultural Ministries.
5. Develop and implement a vision of ministry that promotes intercultural competencies and unity reflective of the diversity of the Body of Christ. Be familiar with current and perhaps give input to future pastoral plans of the United States Catholic Bishops.
6. Lead ministry formation and training on an Archdiocesan level by making available resources for ministerial and spiritual growth that are accessible to people of all cultural communities present in the Archdiocese.
7. Meet with various internal stakeholders (Including but not limited to the Pastors, the Secretariat for Evangelizing Catechesis, the Department of Pastoral Ministries, the Department of Parish Leadership, Catholic Charities, and Office of Catholic Schools) to strategize ways to further develop and instill intercultural competency, unity, and diversity appreciation.
8. Support and participate as needed in cultural group advisory committees or commissions.
9. Visit the parishes of the Archdiocese to promote and facilitate inter-parish and intra-parish collaboration to respond to the needs of the diversity of cultural communities and encourage intercultural participation in parish life.
10. Enhance communication to increase awareness of the programs and services provided by the Office of Intercultural Ministries. Seek feedback from pastoral leaders and laity being served to identify unmet and/or future needs and opportunities for improvement.
