Dr. Allen Aksamit has been on the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota staff since 1986. He is board certified in neurology, a professor of neurology and consultant in the Department of Neurology at Mayo Clinic. He is Education Section head for the Department of Neurology and has responsibilities for neurological education of neurology residents. He also teaches the first year neuroscience course at Mayo Medical School. His clinical and research interests center around neuro-infectious diseases. He was formally trained in a neurovirology fellowship at the National Institutes of Health, NINDS, Bethesda, Maryland. Principal publications center around progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy, Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, neurosarcoidosis, and varied various viral infections of the human brain. Recent publications include articles in Neurology, Continuum, Journal of Neurovirology, Archives of Neurology, and Annals of Neurology. He is a founding chair of the Neuro-infectious Disease section of the American Academy of Neurology. He also presently sits on the Education Committee of the American Academy of Neurology.
