His Excellency served as rector of the Pontifical Lateran University and President of the John Paul II Institutes from 1995 until 2002, when he was named Patriarch of Venice. Prior to joining the Institute's faculty in Rome in 1982, he was Assistant Professor at the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in Milan and The University of Fribourg in Switzerland. He is co-founder of the Italian edition of Communio and has published articles in Nouvelle Revue Théologique, Anthropotes, and Nuovo Areopago. His books include The Foundation of the Natural Law in the Scriptum Super Sententiis, The Dawn of Human Dignity: the Foundation of Human Rights, and Identity and Difference: the Relationship Between Man and Woman. His book-length interviews with Henri Cardinal de Lubac ("Interview on the Second Vatican Council") and Hans Urs von Balthasar ("Test Everything and Hold on to What is Good") have been translated into various languages. His most recent books include The Nuptial Mystery I: Man and Woman; The Nuptial Mystery II: Marriage and Family; and Questions in Theological Anthropology. Since 1986 Bishop Scola has served as a consultant for the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith.

Monsignor Melina is Vice President and Professor of Moral Theology at the John Paul II Institute for Studies on Marriage and Family at the Lateran University in Rome. Grygiel, Stanislaw

Professor Grygiel has served as Vice President of the Central Session of the Institute, located at the Pontifical Lateran University, and holds its chair in philosophical anthropology. In 1963, Professor Grygiel joined the editorial staff of the Polish Catholic journal Znak (The Sign) and became a member of the Catholic intellectual association of that name. He is currently one of the editors of Znak, possessing a unique understanding of the philosophical, religious and cultural forces shaping the new spiritual and political landscape of Europe. Some of Znak’s members have become leaders in post-communist Poland, such as former Prime Minister Tadeusz Mazowiecki. From 1966 to 1980, Professor Grygiel taught courses in the philosophy of man at the Pontifical Theological Academy of Krakow. In 1981, he joined the initial faculty of the Central Session of the Institute. He is also one of the founders and now director of the Italian journal Il Nuovo Areopago which includes among its regular contributors leading Catholic intellectuals of Eastern and Western Europe, such as Vaclav Havel. In addition to many publications in numerous European journals, including Revue Theologique de Lugano, Dr. Grygiel is the author of six books.
